Balance

Core class this morning had new music- A holiday change. My mom came to class. We balanced in a circle as we worked. It was picture pretty.
When my mom and I walked out to the car, it was light, but the wind had kicked up. The parking lot was bigger than we wanted. The car was nice and comfy.

2008 Solstice

Late this afternoon, I went to the grocery store and ran into a Boot Camp and Core Balance co enthusiast, who wasn't at Boot Camp yesterday. She got a bunch of people to go snow shoeing at Willowwood instead. Excellent thing to do on such a snowy day.

Those of us who went to Boot Camp did have the opportunity to work on lower abs and then to be able to lift our legs higher and higher on all sorts of jumps and agility patterns. I started out with 12 times up and down the stairs, I had hoped to get 15 sets in before LF called us in. That will be my goal next time. The laps between lunges and arms were successively harder. The abs were of the V seat kind. Exquisitely painful for this reporter after the first set. The planks were of the 60 second variety. (Long time at the end of an hour of running and sprints) Hopefully the holidays will be kept at bay, a little. (It helps if you hit the publish post button, not the "save as draft" button.)

Delaware Watergap Hike for Athletes

Saturday, 6 +3 people hiked the New Jersey side of the Delaware Water Gap after a vigorous Boot Camp workout. We arrived at two adjacent parking lots at 11:35, and met on the trail at about 2:30pm. 6 slightly nervous people hiked up the Red Dot trail to the fire road to the turquoise trail to the Appalachian Trail(West).

We had great preparation from all of the stairs we had just run in Boot Camp. The views were lovely. There is nothing quite so magical as the startling green of moss in a winter gray hillside. Sunfish Pond was frozen over. There were few other adventurers. The two trail runners who passed us in the afternoon dusk running down the AT were marvelous. Surer foot than I am on rock and icy spring outflows. As the dusk settled on Mount Tammany, the Dunnfield Creek and the cascades of rhododendrons to our left gave us a fairy tale intimate good bye to the National Park. We got to reconnect in the parking lot with the 3 clockwise hikers. I was so relieved to know that they had made it all the way around the mountain. I did not know if they had maps or emergency supplies.

YJ capped the experience with an all inclusive email hug. Thank you so much. So many conversations, so many opportunities to pet two four footed friends. I hope people are excited enough to try some of my other favorite trails- Willowood to Cooper's Mill, High Point, Harriman State Park in NY, the Palisades, ... Spring flowers, summer sweats, fall leaves, and winter snows make each of these trails special.

Everyone who went was fantastically fit and up to the task. Thanks for the priviledge of being able to share these woods with you.

Monday run on sentences

Good Monday everyone, As usual, I have more ideas than time to realize them, courtesy of exercise. This morning, I was early enough to Core that I was quite startled. 5:45 is an interesting hour to be moving on a winter Monday morning. Marilyn had perfect form as we tried to improve our hip flexibility so that we can do splits.

What an inspiration!

The day after the Hike

Moving pretty slowly; the hike worked the quads and the glutes; nonetheless, womaned it up and taught an RPM (spin) class in Bayonne. GOOD class!
Picked up my new iPod Touch (almost an iphone!; its as close as I can get to the cool crowd; but am typing off my MacBook Pro).
Tomorrow night YJ; JD, LF, and maybe JD will be doing  an hour run; LC, r u coming?

Last week I talked to YJ and PT about Skiing and Snowboarding

PT likes the Wii Fit- Shaun White Snowboarding. It costs $40.00.

LC wants to learn how to snowboard, but she doesn't want to do pushups all day. YJ and PT want to ski and snowboard with family.

January- Soup Kitchen volunteering
February- trip to Momix
March- Parkour anyone?
Dragonboat paddling for the spring. Anyone interested?
September- Urban-athalon

four T's meet to start "Booty Camp"

Friday night, before Boot Camp at Warren, JD, YJ, LF, and LC met to chat about exercise and laugh at LF's ability to count.

Also rans: Fit for Life Friends(Buddies), Fitness Buddies, Best Friends for Fitness, Fit to Live- complaints- "girlie", easy text.

Tomorrow- we are going to Boot Camp and then the Delaware Water Gap to run up to Sunfish Pond.

No cotton tomorrow. We are discussing, how B will take care of her ankle. We have decided that we will help her over every obstacle, even our sense of humor.
