I went to the gym today to lift weights. I have been so busy with spinning, core, and "boot camp" I have been neglecting muscle management. Considering that I have been chiding my mom about keeping muscle mass as she hits 79, I have to keep up the work for myself.
The main gym was packed. Every cardio machine, all the weight machines and benches were busy. I turned around and went to a satellite gym. Much less hassle, even though I ended up doing upper in reverse, cause I couldn't warm up on a free cardio machine. the weights were fine. When I couldn't get a bench, I used a balance ball. That way a little core ab work got worked in. I am steady with 5's for shoulders, 10's for curls, and a 30# bar for scull crushers- my favorite tri's. Can't wait to see some extra weight in a few sessions.
I read a note in the Sunday paper that people have to commit to weight change for it to work. That seems trite to me, though 8 years ago, I pretty much did just that, as a help to my daughter's resolution to deal with teen aged "what ever". Both of us have never really looked back. She walks all over her very walkable city and manages her intake. I love to hike, lift, and now do core and spin with a great group of people. I hope who ever reads this has their own form of committing to good health. May your new year be full of energy and new adventures.
